On Wednesday, October 12, 2016, 20 teams representing over 30 technology partners and vendors came together to hit the links, raise money for charity, make some new friends, and — although we told them they really didn’t have to — talk some business. The event began with a tour of UNICOM Engineering’s Plano office and manufacturing facility. Clients and partners got to see what we do and where we do it as a global value-added systems integrator.
After that, we moved on to the gorgeous Cowboys Golf Club in nearby Grapevine, Texas. This breathtaking, NFL-themed resort formed the perfect setting for our colleagues to enjoy some intoxicating Texas weather while working together as a team to make up for all the hard slices and inevitable bunker shots seen throughout the day. Our inconsistent golf skills aside, everyone had a blast and solidified the event as one of the things we look forward to the most on the calendar. This opportunity to give back to the community in which we live and work instills a huge sense of pride and accomplishment. As a result of this year’s event, we will provide $25,000 in much-needed funding to some very deserving charities including the Children’s Advocacy Center of Collin County, the Will to Live Foundation, and Allies in Service. Thank you to Melanie Carroll, John Trautwein, and David Whitley for sharing their message and personal stories.
We look forward to seeing everyone again next August in Boston, Massachusetts. More details to follow as we get closer to the event. . You can also read on to hear more about how it went and see pictures of our golf teams in action!
10:00-11:15 A.M. — Tour of UNICOM Engineering Facilities in Plano
Participants in our Golf Classic event had the chance to meet us in our Plano, Texas manufacturing facility and take a relatively quick tour while meeting some of our employees. These interactions allowed many of our clients, partners, and other colleagues to put a face to the voices they hear on the phone and names they see on email. They also got to see some of what we do in action.
11:30 A.M. – 1:30 P.M. — Meet at Cowboys Club, Lunch and Practice
Giving everyone ample time to gather, we met the day’s participants at the Cowboys Golf Club in Grapevine. The weather couldn’t have been more perfect that day, and the lengthy lead-up to the tournament start included lunch and plenty of casual schmoozing. Not to mention the awesome swap provided by many of the sponsors.
Lunch was provided by Synnex, and it was so good that we were all worried about playing on a full stomach. To get out the butterflies, tournament participants had the chance to take plenty of practice swings at the range.
1:30 P.M. — The Tournament Begins!
Participants included representatives from some well-known Texas-based businesses, including Dell, Aramark, Trade Group, and more. As well as, industry leaders like Intel, HPE, and Supermicro.
The format followed a four-man scramble, allowing each team to pick the best shot before moving on. And, we benefitted from the expertise of caddies provided by Dell, which helped us all feel a little bit more like the pros! And to beat the heat and refuel our players, Arrow came through with beverages and snacks on the course.
6:00 P.M. — Cocktail Reception, Dinner, and Awards
After the tournament finished off, everyone enjoyed some much-deserved drinks before dinner and our awards ceremony. Congratulations to Tom Paquette, Adam Prengler, and George Pappasour winners!
We can’t forget the heart behind this tournament which is the charities that we support. Thank you to all of our attendees for allowing them to come and spread their message and awareness for the issues and communities that they help. Proceeds from the tourney will benefit the following charities that spoke at our event and perform some critical services, including:
The remainder of the proceeds will go to charities selected by our Canton and Galway campuses.
Thank you to each and every one of our sponsors for making this event a success. We sincerely appreciate the support and participation that we receive from one year to the next.
