CAMPBELL, CA – November 3, 2014 – Firetide®, Inc. – a division of enterprise technology giant UNICOM Global – announced that it recently provided its industry-leading, patented wireless infrastructure products to provide the backbone of a City-wide, high-definition surveillance system used to keep the participants and crowds at the 2014 TCS New York City Marathon safe. This was the 44th running of the world’s largest marathon with over 50,000 athletes.
In partnership with several other technology companies including Virsig, Sony, Milestone, NVT and Seneca, Firetide’s dual radio / tri-band spectrum Wireless Mesh Nodes enabled a “pop-up” network infrastructure throughout the boroughs of New York City. The system was seamlessly integrated into the overall situational awareness footprint and the Marathon Leadership Center, in conjunction with City-Wide Disaster Services (CDS) of NYC, an emergency communications organization who deployed their Mobile Command Center as part of the system.
“UNICOM Global was very proud for our Firetide division to contribute our industry-leading wireless technology for the safety of the more than 50,000 runners, and hundreds of thousands of spectators and volunteers at this world-class event,” said Corry Hong, founder, president and CEO of UNICOM Global. “Firetide’s highly-redundant wireless mesh solutions delivered the bandwidth necessary to enable high-definition video and constant communications for law-enforcement and Race operations throughout the streets of New York City, ensuring a safe experience for all.”
Firetide’s wireless solutions are in wide use throughout the world in mission-critical installations including air and sea ports, municipal rail and bus transit systems, city infrastructure and factory automation. The Company’s patented technology enables systems that law-enforcement and authorities trust to provide highly-reliable public safety solutions.
